Knowing the basics about an organization certainly helps if you are being considered for a position, among other opportunities. But what lies beyond the basics? This talk will discuss the layers of branding within an organization, and how to use them to your advantage.

BIO

After years working in the architecture and interior design world, Catherine moved on to find her niche coordinating thousands of volunteers of the AIDS Memorial Quilt. It reminded her of her work for the homeless community when she spoke across the nation on the issue, inspiring interior designers to lend their space-planning talents. This resulted in housing a thousand more people than before.

Later at the American Institute of Architects, she led national educational efforts about the Americans with Disabilities Act, conveying how best to implement this important piece of legislation into buildings and businesses.

Her work to better our communities continues today. Catherine serves on the PR Society of America’s national committee on corporate responsibility, and also the Green Initiatives Task Force for the Northern Virginia Technology Council. She is a regular speaker at The Center for Nonprofit Advancement. Catherine is the driving force behind CreateAThon, a 24-hour marathon of communication services for good causes.

Currently, Catherine works full time leading a team of consultants at Basis, an innovative brand consultancy based in Falls Church, Virginia. Her team specializes in communication campaigns that confront economic and financial issues in society.

Basis has worked with over 90 nonprofits reaching foster children, working poor families, earned income tax credit recipients, single moms and dads, US military, the working homeless, among others. Increasingly, the communication techniques developed at Basis for the nonprofit world are being called upon by corporate entities too, which they serve with equal vigor and tenacity.
