Greater Washington Board of Trade
James C. Dinegar joined the Greater Washington Board of Trade as
president and chief executive officer in July 2006. As president and
CEO, Dinegar oversees all internal and external operations for the
Board of Trade, the largest regional network of business and non-profit
leaders and the only local organization representing all industry
Previously, Dinegar served as chief operating officer of the American
Institute for Architects (AIA) where he was responsible for the overall
operation of a 77,000-member organization and directed strategic
efforts in the areas of education, technology, international
collaboration, organizational alliances and government advocacy.

During his six-year tenure, Dinegar oversaw the growth of annual
revenues by more than $20 million from $34 million in 1999 to over
$56 million for the 2006 budget always resulting in net operating
In his position as vice president of government and industry affairs
for AIA, Dinegar strategically reorganized a responsive government
affairs program that served the needs of members and advanced an agenda
on issues including school construction legislation, livable community
policies and enhanced security through design.
Dinegar began his Washington career as a representative for the
Independent Insurance Agents of America. Later he served as
manager/director of government affairs for the American Society of
Association Executives and vice president of government affairs for the
Building Owners and Managers Association, International.
Dinegar is a 28-year resident of the Greater Washington region. He is a
graduate of The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and
he resides in Arlington, VA with his wife, Marcia, and children, Abby
and Ben. Dinegar also serves on the Board of Directors for the American
Society of Association Executives.
