New Ways to Approach Financial Issues during the Job Search

    Ilene Slatko
    DSS Consulting

Change is almost never easy, and job searches can be daunting, frustrating, scary and draining. In this presentation, Ilene invites attendees to view financial issues through a new lens, and offers a framework for decision making that clarifies a path forward.

    In this session, participants will:

    • Gain a clearer understanding of their emotions and triggers around money, particularly in challenging times.
    • Define their “diamonds” and how to gain concurrence from partners/spouses, etc..
    • Leave with a framework for decision-making.
    • Learn in an interactive setting.

    About the Speaker:

Ilene Slatko is the Principal of DSS Consulting, which provides business and financial literacy programming, as well as coaching services. She has over 25 years’ experience in the financial industry, including managing the flagship office of a major regional brokerage in Washington, DC. Over the course of her multiple roles in the industry, Ilene has been featured in national print and TV, highlighting her unique approach to building her business, educating clients and training employees.

In 2010, in the wake of the financial collapse and subsequent bankruptcies of numerous public companies, Ilene founded Delaware Shareholder Services, which served as the link between the bankruptcy court and global stakeholders. She was the only reporter inside the bankruptcy court live-tweeting to shareholders, allowing anyone to gain actionable insight into what was happening with their investments, in real-time.

A native to the DC area, she returned in 2017 and spends her time re-exploring the area; both the Capital Crescent Trail as well as the numerous arts and music venues locally. Ilene is managing director of the SecurCapital Foundation, a 501(c)(3) that funds organizations working on behalf of young people.

Staying Positive during your Job Search using Self Awareness

    Dr. Dennis Humphries
    Point.Shift^LC

Whether you are searching for a position or just 're-beginning' your W-2 status, your successes or absence of success is primarily based on conditioning of your mental state.  It is a constant battle of conscious and subconscious programming that will not only define resilience but will also define effort.  Resilience and success (however defined) is more probable if we know who we are versus searching for something that is based on what we are.  There is a difference.

    About the Speaker:

Dr. Dennis V. Humphrey is the founder and principal consultant of Point.Shift^ LC, a training and behavioral development group located in Herndon, Virginia.  Dennis is a graduate of Benedictine College where he received an MS in Organizational Development and a graduate of Capella University where he received a PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology.

During his career, Dr. Humphrey has specialized in areas focused on management, executive, and senior executive development.  Over the course of his career, he has designed training and development programs, specialized assessment centers, talent management initiatives, coached and simulation systems for evaluation of program participants across multiple industries.  Dr. Humphrey has provided learning expertise for public, private and governmental agencies as a Program Manager and as a senior organizational leader.  Over the past 5 years, he has traveled across the United States as a Keynote and Motivational Speaker specifically addressing the psychology of change and the elimination of barriers to personal and professional growth.

After over 20+ years of industry service and 22 years of military service, Dr. Humphrey established Point.Shift^ as a specialized group tasked with using key psychological theories, principles, and proven tools to accelerate leadership capability and to identify critical areas of development for individual leadership and team level efficiencies.  As an author, Dr. Humphrey is dedicated to also promoting lasting messaging on how substantive changes in leadership training delivery and critical behavioral shifts in life can introspectively promote greater potential and capability.  Other than also being certified as a Birkman Personality Assessment consultant, Dr. Humphrey is an adjunct Professor of Psychology at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology.
