Monday Morning Speaker: Dr. Katherine Green

"The Shape of Things to Come: Becoming an Employee of Choice” with Dr. Katherine Green

Many middle-aged and older adults are choosing to remain at work longer.  The choice is influenced by financial need or a preference to remain engaged in productive work.

Organizations are responding slowly to the working populations’ changing views, and they are even slower to alter work and working conditions to support a “graying” workforce. However, there are significant and important strategies individuals can use to gain, and retain, satisfying and productive work.

This presentation will present research highlights debunking myths about older workers, and offer strategies and tips to locate employment opportunities that fit and matter.

Biography

Dr. Katherine Green began Green Consulting Group LLC in 1999, to offer organizational consulting services focusing on leadership, change and the aging workforce. GCG collaborates with business, government and associations to “develop competent leaders with vision and goodwill,” garnering a rating of 97 out of 100 from her clients during an independent 1994 review.

Since 1988, Katherine has researched, written and spoken on the organizational challenges posed by an aging workforce. In the early 1990’s she produced a series of “how to” booklets for the U.N.’s International Labour Office on best practices for employing older workers, and wrote two white papers on work and working conditions for older adults. She has spoken at local, national and international
professional and civic conferences about the aging workforce, and participated in two national projects. One project promoted workforce planning strategies for small and mid-sized businesses, the other educated retailers on strategies to recruit and retain workers aged 50+ using flexible workplace practices.

More recently, Katherine consulted on a pilot knowledge management initiative with NASA to retain institutional knowledge of the retiring engineering workforce.

Her current work involves creating work and working conditions for lifetime employment through organizational adaptations, revised HR policies and practices and leadership development for an age-neutral workplace.

Plan to join us after the meeting for networking.  Many of us carry our conversations to lunch at the nearby Brookings Institution.

Attire is business casual, recruiters are often present, so we ask all Monday Speaker attendees to contribute to the professional standards and objectives of this important networking meeting.

Doors open at 9:15 for networking and the program starts promptly at 10:00.
